Minister Inaugurates Race Course Model Road Project

Local Administration Minister S P Velumani inaugurated the Race Course Model Road Project at a cost of Rs 40.70 crore.
He said that modernised roads, children’s park, amusement park, ultra-modern street lights and pavements are being taken up under the scheme and work is moving at a faster pace.
In a touch of pride, he said that across the country Coimbatore is the only city where SmartCity scheme work is moving at a faster pace.
Since, Race Course is being used by people for their daily stroll, he said that roads will be widened with ample curves around the Race course area under the model road project. Moreover, the new widened road will remove traffic bottlenecks on this stretch. In addition, he said that an Ambi Theatre will come up near Government Arts College for the benefit of the residents besides pavements for pedestrians will be made and ample parking space will be set up under the project.
Added to this are free wifi facility and modernised traffic umbrellas, surveillance cameras as part of security measure to residents and roadside eateries. Roadside parks will be entrusted with private parties for maintenance and rain water harvesting structures will be set up to augment ground water level.
District Collector K Rajamani, Corporation Commissioner Sravan Kumar Jatavat, Deputy Commissioner Maduranthagi, corporation engineers Lakshmanan, MLAs PRG Arunkumar, Amman K Arjunan, Ettimadai Shanmugam were among those who were present at the inaugural.
