Letter To PM And FM
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind jointly with Students Islamic Organisation, Hidhayaa Islamic College for Women and Islamiya Matriculation Higher Secondary School sought for nationalised bank branch at Karumbukkadai neighbourhood in the city.
In a memorandum sent to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Seetharaman, the petitioners underlined the need for a nationalised bank branch at their locality since it has been a long-felt need of residents of that area. Pointing out that Coimbatore district is considered to be one of the industrial hub in South India and Karumbukkadai, a predominantly Muslim dominant area with over 50,000 residents has three educational institutions, small to medium-sized businesses as well as several small scale industries.
Stating that the people face immense hardship due to lack of banking facility in their area, the petitioners said that they have to commute nearly 5 kilometres for all their banking needs since there is not a single branch of any bank operating in this locality. The worst sufferers are businessmen in this area, who find it extremely difficult in getting financial support in terms of bank loans, etc since the locality has been categorised as “negative zone”.
Despite repeated representations to District Collector, Distrcit Backward Class and Minority Welfare Officer, Lead Bank as well as State Minister seeking the dire need for a nationalised bank branch, nothing materialised so far as there were just assurances from the district level officials. Since bank accounts are considered basic necessity and vital in this digital era, it is most important to have a nationalised bank branch in this locality to avail government subsidies, loans and other sops. In this connection, representation has been made to Prime Minister. The petitioners have stated that they are ready to offer accommodation for bank branch at a proposed complex convenient to both staff and public.
