As a summer retreat to visiting tourists both upcountry and within the country, the 123rd flower show was declared open by honourable Governor Banwarilal Purohit at Botanical Garden. Nilgiris District Collector Innocent Divya was present on the occasion.
Sources at Horticulture department said that they expect more visitors this time as summer is at its peak across the country and already many North Indian tourists are already camping in the hills as part of their summer vacation. Around 1100 police personnel have been deployed for bandobust during the flower show besides special buses will ply between Coimbatore and Ooty during the five days to meet the summer rush of tourists.
About 250 varieties of flowers like Inca Marigold, French Marigold, Lilium, Begonia have been displayed at the flower show to attract the visitors. More than 55,000 flower pots adorn the flower show besides flower decked Parliament miniature are feast to the eyes of tourists. It is said that 2 lakh flowers were used for this purpose. Meanwhile, JSS group of institutions had set up herbal expo which will be cynosure of all eyes.
An entry fee of Rs 50 for adults and Rs 20 for children besides Rs 100 for camera and Rs 500 for video camera is being collected at the flower show.
