Jamaat-e-Islamic Hind’s Maiden Meet Makes A Mark

By SHEFA RAFI

All roads led to government exhibition grounds on Dr Nanjappa Road on February 3 evening as the first regional conference of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind was convened here with people converging from different parts to the meeting venue. And there was large turnout of youth, women and children at the meet while not to speak of people from neighbouring God’s Own Country. Interestingly, the space was filled with sea of humanity.
And the theme for the meet was aptly taken from the Quranic verse ‘So, Where are you going?’ (Al-Quran 81:26) which was aimed at igniting the minds of Muslims stressing them to strictly adhere to the principles of Islam thereby living in a Islamic way.
The audience were kept spell bound by the speech of Perambur Islamic Federation Trust (IFT) vice president Dr KVS Habeeb Mohamed, who dwelt at length on the topic ‘Indraya Soozhazhum, Indiya Muslimgalum’. Stressing the point that securalism must be protected at any cost and no government, be it centre or state should interfere in the religious freedom of the individual person guaranteed by the Constitution of India, he said that it’s the fundamental right of every citizen to practice and spread their religion peacefully. He went on to say that the rights of individuals needs to be safeguarded by the powers that be. Others who spoke at the one day conference included P.S. Asma Bi, President of Ladies wing, JIH Coimbatore (Role of women in Islamic resurgence), Moulavi Abdul Hakeem Nadwi, District President of JIH Palakkad (Islamic Awakening in the 21st century), Sri Lanka Jamiyathul Ulema Sabai vice president A C Akhar Mohammed, JIH general secretary Moulavi Mohammed Haneefa Manbayi, Tiruchi Assalam Islamiya College Prof Moulavi Nooh Mahlari, Coimbatore Hidhaaya Islamic College for Women correspondent Moulavi Mohamed Ismali Imdhadhi, SIO general secretary T A Shabbir Ahamed.
Earlier, Coimbatore conference organisor P S Umar Farook welcomed while JIH Tamil Nadu president A Shabbir Ahamed presided and JIH secretary M S Shabir Ali proposed a vote of thanks. A souvenir was released to mark the event. JIH Public Relations secretary A Abdul Hakkim and Media secretary S Mohamed Aneez were present on the occasion.
