Tourists staying in lodges and resorts in the Queen of Hill stations to vacate the premises within 24 hours as a sequel to coronavirus prevention in the district. Nilgiris District Collector Innocent Divya stated in a press release that the tourists, who have come from other states and other countries to vacant the rooms and leave the hills.
Meanwhile, she directed lockdown of tourist spots including botanical gardens and sight seeing places following a direction from Tamil Nadu chief minister to shut all schools, college, malls, theatres, recreation centres, tourist spots till March 31 as a measure to ward off coronavirus spread across the district. The health department officials have been directed to inspect mall and theatres to check whether they have cleaned up the premises by spraying disinfectant. In this backdrop, the collector ordered cancelling the Nilgiri Mountain Railway trains from Mettupalayam to Udhagamandalam for fourteen days. Train numbers 56136 between Mettupalayam and Udhagamandalam, 56137 between Udhagamandalam and Mettupalayam besides 016171 between Mettupalayam and Udhagamandalam and 016172 between Udhagamandalam and Mettupalayam, Train number 56139 and 56142 between Mettupalayam and Coonoor stands cancelled. In the return direction, Train 56143 and 56138 from Coonoor to Mettupalayam also stands cancelled till March 31. In view of this, the primary maintenance of rake is to be carried out Coonoor for 14 days till March 31.
