Inculcate Reading Habit In Children, ‘Puthiya Paathai’ R Parthiban Tells Parents @ Odyssey

He laid a new road to success thru’ his maiden movie ‘Puthiya Paathai’ wayback in 1989 wherein he penned the story, showed his acting prowess and wielded the megaphone.
And it was box office hit winning two National and two state government awards. Many eyebrows were raised in the Kollywood after it became a critically acclaimed blockbuster film with accolades pouring in from several quarters.
Meet Radhakrishnan Parthiban, a multi-talented personality, who shared some interesting info starting from his first book ‘Kirukkalgal’ to his satirical film ‘Kathai Thiraikathai, Vasanam, Iyakkam’ with Kovai Metro during his visit to Odyssey at Brookefields Mall in the city.
“Its not necessary that one must possess knowledge and wisdom to do something. Interest and the spirit to do it is just enough. It was just a scribbling which I did while planning to go on a trip to Tirupati in early 1988 which finally ended in bringing out a book titled ‘Kirukkalgal’. It did receive immense response besides bouquets from noted scholars,” he revealed.
“The spirit to write can start from anywhere by any person at any moment. However, it all depends on how one makes it success is what matters. To be frank, I am not a book-worm, but was keen to read books of celebrated authors like Sujatha and Balakumaran. To me, I was more interested in writing than reading,” he noted.
On his Coimbatore connection, Parthiban said that his producer Mohan of ‘Kathai Thiraikathai Vasanam Iyakkam’ movie is from Vadavalli. Moreover, he said that he frequented the city on several occasions during shooting schedules while he was assistant to his guru director K Bhagyaraj.
“I love Coimbatore for good mannerisms of the people here and for its salubrious climate. I was surprised when even a traffic constable volunteers to help public in a polite way with courteous words,” he said adding that he had great respect to producer Mohan next to his maiden movie producer Sundaram.
Coming down heavily on the gadget addiction among the present gen more so kids and teenagers, he said that its the responsibility of parents to keep a tag on them on what they are browsing in the android phones and computers.
Parents must make their wards read books to facilitate them to update their knowledge and skill. All the more, good character is vital in one’s life for which moral values must be given importance than education.
Before signing off, Parthiban said that 40 percent of his earning goes to his ‘R.Parthiban Manidhaneya Mandram’, a charitable trust which is used for social cause. His books Kirukkalgal and Kathai Thiraikkathai Vasanam Iyakkam is available for sale at Odyssey, Brookefields.
