Skills definitely pays off well for Muslim girls in getting not just one diploma but a few grabbing two in computer application and developing. Thanks to Advanced Institute for Moral and Modern Science (AIMMS) community college for bringing the best out of them during the training.
Dr L Balaji Saravanan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) L&O, Coimbatore city while speaking at the 15th convocation AIMMS Community College held at Karumbukkadai Hidhayaa Islamic College for Women campus stressed the need for education and urged Muslim girls not to stop with just diploma which they had obtained, but to go ahead for higher education and to shine in life.
Citing former US President Barack Obama’s concern for women’s education, he said that he played a proactive role in empowering women thru’ education as he had a strong belief that increased number of female leadership in politics will improve and enhance future government policy. Moreover, it was generally felt that education is inevitable for women as it could create equality besides eliminating barriers and discrimination.
Both Dheen (religious study) and regular academics is important for women, he said adding that its encouraging to see that there is more awareness among Muslim parents to see their girl children pursuing higher studies. In this connection, he referred to Kashmir’s first Muslim IPS officer, who was posted as ASP in western region and how women members admired her. He also referred to music composer A R Rahman, who due to his dedication and determination won the prestigious Oscar award in 2009. Become achievers, Balaji Saravanan told students.
In a quick rewind, senior journalist and Trinity Mirror scribe M Rafi Ahmed detailed about the road AIMMS had travelled from its inception in 2005 under the able guidance of Haji Dr A Ameer Althaf and with the help of trustees. Women members belonging to poor family background were greatly benefited from AIMMS which got transformed as Tamil Nadu’s first women’s community college.
Urging the students to think in terms of enhancing their capabilities to excel in life, he said that they need to make newspaper reading habit to know about what is happening around the globe pertaining to economics, politics and what not. Pointing out that there corporates now scout for suitable hands who are skilled and talented, he said that degrees and diplomas are just recognition for completion of academics and its seldom considered for placement these days. Hence, he appealed to girls to develop their knowledge and enhance their skills in their chosen line of interest.
Calling upon the girls to make a try at civil services exam, he said that a basic degree is just enough to take up civil services and added that many Muslim girls are leaving no stone unturned to clear civil services. Not long ago Ajitha Begam, a BA in political science from Government Arts College, Coimbatore got coaching from Prof Kanagaraj, HoD, Political Science department, Government Arts College and got selected as IPS officer and serving in God’s Own Country as police commissioner.
Haji M Showkath Ali, chairman, Prestine International Public School expressed happiness in seeing the environment of Hidhyaa Islamic College for Women that is churning out girls both in Deeniyat and global education making them stand on their own legs. He went on to say that an exclusive women’s college is being envisaged to hone the skills of girls thru’ innovative educational method.
M A Azad, project manager from Kuwait took the responsibility of footing the bill for an ulema’s daughter, who is now pursuing her medicine at a private college in Coimbatore. Dr Mohamed Ibrahim, senior network consultant, Abudhabi, UAE, Moulavi M M Ismail Imdhadhi, correspondent, Hidhayaa Islamic College for Women also spoke on the occasion. Trustees who were present at the event included Haji A M Sahabudeen, Haji K T Abdul Majeed, Haji A Raoof Ali, Haji C K John Basha and Haji A Zakkaria.
